Excavation Safety Competent Person

Class Duration- 4 hours
Must score an 80% to pass.

Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students will receive a certificate and
wallet card.
Course Description:
The Competent Person for Excavation Safety course is designed to provide students with an awareness
of the 1926 Subpart P Excavation Standard as well as an introduction to current protective system
design and selection. For those employees that an employer wishes to be a Competent Person the
class will provide the technical education component of the Occupational Safety and Health
Administrationās (OSHA) Competent Person requirements.
The Competent Person for Excavation Safety class is built around the ability to recognize existing and
predictable hazards in and around the excavation and appropriate corrective measures. The class also
covers the following topics:
- OSHA Excavation Standard
- Soil Mechanics and Soil Analysis
- Protective System Planning and Selection
- Job Planning Related to Trench Safety
- Competent Person Responsibilities
- The class is designed to benefit employees at all levels of an organization including senior
- management, safety professionals, project managers, project estimators, project superintendents,
- project foremen and laborers engaged in projects related to the excavation standard.
